Nice and the east

Nice and the coastline to the east was, along with Cannes, the first area of the Côte d’Azur to be ‘discovered’ by adventurous northern Europeans (especially English) looking for a warm climate to spend their winters. Villefranche, Beaulieu, Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze, Cap d’Ail, Cap Martin and Menton all form part of the best of today’s South of France.

Cap Ferrat is the jewel, with some of the world’s most beautiful – and valuable – properties. Here, if you have the inclination and the money, you can hide away in a secluded seafront villa by day and play in the clubs and casinos of Nice, Beaulieu and Monaco by night. This is an area where the sea is an integral part of life and where most will want to have a boat of their own or, at least, to use one from time to time for those lunches on the aft-deck or to be whisked to a waterside restaurant. It is probably fair to say that the majority of owners will be there principally in the summer - although closer to Monaco there are owners who work in the Principality and commute from Eze or Cap d’Ail.

Monaco has evolved beyond all recognition since the days when its income derived from the Casinos and other ancillary activities. Today the Principality is a financial and commercial centre where property is amongst the most expensive on the coast.
