Buying advice for French property

If buying a property in your home market is fraught with problems, then buying a property in France can present many more layers of difficulty. Distance is one. No matter how quick or cheap flights are, having your time wasted seeing properties that are not remotely suitable is, at best, annoying. Unfortunately, estate agents aren’t going to help you on this, not least because there are over six-thousand registered agents immobiliers on the Cote d’Azur alone and they are paid to sell their properties and not to tell buyers which ones might be unsuitable. At Property Vision we pride ourselves on listening – not selling. And if we waste your time on anything but strong possibilities, on or off the open market, then we are not worth employing.

It is in the next stage that we can really earn our fee. There are specific aspects of the French system which it is vital to understand. Asking prices are always well above market value – but how do you know how much above? There are taxes and inheritance laws you may not be aware of, but which have to be understood before you buy, not when it’s too late. Planning regulations are complex to the uninitiated. Property Vision’s team in France has over forty years' experience in the property market and can steer you safely through what can be treacherous waters.

Whether it is in Paris, the French Alps, Provence or on the Cote d’Azur, we think we offer the buyer a unique service that offers real reassurance in a market that can be risky for the unwary.
