Northamptonshire seems to have a reputation in terms of country houses of being the poor man’s Oxfordshire, which is largely unfounded.
The county is made up of vast, mainly flat areas of countryside which are still farmed. There are, however, areas of rolling countryside with charming hamlets and small edge-of-town villages still used by estate workers giving Northamptonshire an old-fashioned, very traditional English feel.
Identified over the last ten years as ‘an area to watch’, there have been pockets within the south of the county around Greatworth, Sulgrave and Culworth, for example, where there have been substantial price increases. This is following the increase of second-home investors from London making the most of the price differentials from neighbouring counties.
Northamptonshire has very good commuter links, with fast trains to London taking between 30 to 45 minutes, and the M1 and the M40 within easy striking distance of most parts of the county.
